GIPHY came to us with a desire to get the GIF off of the phone or computer and into a more traditional frame. The GIPHY IRL frame is inspired by the look and feel of an instant film photograph.
We designed a super-thin device - almost like a printed photo - that moves. It can stay in its frame or be passed around as you would a physical photo. If you want to change the photo, you just give it a shake. The GIPHY frame works with the companion product, the IRL Cam which is a small connected camera that takes and processes moments as GIFS.
With several gigabytes of memory the device can store dozens of GIFs or short videos that are each up to 20 seconds in length. The screen is a high resolution 1920 x1080 OLED display with a 1mm thin battery that allows continuous playback when on the cradle, or about 10 minutes of playback when off the charging cradle. Pogo pins and magnets in the cradle hold the frame and allow it to be charged. Future versions of the charging cradle would have a WiFi module to receive video content from an online account so users could create their own GIF playlist.
