GLOW is a connected affirmation box that seamlessly delivers daily, tailored content to inspire and inform. Entrepreneur and author, Tricia Clarke-Stone approached Tomorrow Lab to adapt the positive energy of the #BlackGirlMagic movement away from the toxic environment of Twitter and into a physical, daily ritual.
GLOW stands as a beautiful design object when not in use. Timely and inspiring messages, exclusively curated by the Double Down team, are automatically synced. A subtle light signifies that a message is stored. When the top is twisted, a meditative tone emits from the speaker and the message is revealed on the hidden display. A light twist magnetically aligns the top half back into the waiting position, lasting days before needing to be recharged.
The electrical engineering effort focused on removing friction from the user experience. Once the WiFi connection is set up with a smartphone, inspirational messages are automatically synced. The notification light glows dimly to avoid calling undue attention to itself. The contrast ratio of the hidden, circular OLED display makes messages appear to magically glow through the lens. The content can be further tailored through an online questionnaire.
The goal was to create a unique platform for affirmative messages that moved beyond adding “another screen” to one’s life.
