Wearable Patch for Menstrual Pain Relief

Artemis uses technology to advance the lives of women through choices. The Artemis Patch -- the company’s flagship wearable device -- is a noninvasive, wearable device that naturally helps relieve women’s menstrual pain. This patch provides vibration stimulation to the user’s lower abdomen. The Artemis App enables users to control the intensity of the stimulation that the patch delivers.

Tomorrow Lab led the design & development of the V1 Artemis Patch hardware and firmware.

01 —Industrial Design

The patch easily and painlessly attaches and removes from the user’s body using reusable, breathable, medical-grade ‘Tegaderm’. The product is actually two parts: 1. A reusable power module that provides stimulating vibration patterns, and 2. A disposable body-worn adhesive patch.

The patches are thin, light, flexible, and breathable, so that they move with the user throughout the day and can be comfortably concealed under clothing. The patches are disposable but can be used several times each. When its time to change patches, the rotation lock between the patch and the power module creates a comfortable, reliable connection.

02 —Technology Design

The patch delivers sufficient vibration stimulation to provide pain relief. We investigated various vibration motor types, vibration and stimulation patterns and tested them with users to survey efficacy.

Tomorrow Lab integrated a powering & charging circuit, and Bluetooth module to integrate seamlessly with the Artemis App. The App is used to control the various vibration settings, set timers, and more.
