High-Volume Digital Storage Postcard

‘Packet’ is a network of low-cost, digital mass storage postcards meant to solve the problem of limited internet storage space and/or internet bandwidth when needing to transfer or access a large amount of data. The product thesis is based on the fact that physical storage needs will always outpace bandwidth capacity (Moore’s Law vs Nielsen’s Law). In order to maintain the long-term growth of the internet, Packet fills the need for a physical storage delivery network built on a set of low-cost reliable devices.

This product had been previously prototyped by the Client. Over the course of a few months, Tomorrow Lab rapidly developed a production-ready "version 2" of this product, setup the associated supply chain, and delivered several thousand units ready for use!

01 —Product Strategy & Packaging Design

While the Internet helps us maintain communication during a physical attack, we don’t have the reverse; a physical technology that helps us maintain communication during a cyber/Internet attack. The goals of this product include being the Cheapest Content Delivery Network on the planet, and the Fastest Content Delivery Network for large data sets. Given the postcard form factor, it allows seamless integration with Postal Services and Global Courier Systems.

We developed a beautiful, simple layered paper packaging design with additional cardboard envelopes and stickers to seal the USB-C port after initial use.
